Outdoor Engagement & Befriender - Cystic Fibrosis Unit
The Centre is the only adult CF centre in Wales, comprising of a 16 bedded specialist unit, and outpatient clinics. Volunteers will be supporting and interacting with patients in the courtyard areas; encouraging patients to enjoy and engage with the outdoor space, supporting patients who may feel lonely, isolated or bored. To support patients, Volunteers will be utilising their own interest/knowledge of nature and wellbeing, and will need a good understanding or interest in the benefits of nature in supporting health and wellbeing/horticulture/gardening. Volunteers may also be supporting staff with mindfulness activities in the outdoor courtyard spaces.
Patients with CF are at risk of cross-infection with bugs from other people with CF; therefore, clinics are organised to minimise any potential risk. This extends to the use of the Centre’s 2 enclosed courtyard gardens - maximum of 2 patients only in the space at any one time.
